In the Orwellian year 1984, two very special animals left the farm. Katrin Wouters and Karen Hendrix both graduated from the famous Royal Academy of Fine Arts, section gold smithing, in Antwerp. Prompted by a shared dream to channel their kindled creativity in a jewellery brand, they started an intense collaboration. Even from days this early, their claim was eloquently stated: to produce jewellery that is elegant yet daring, intelligent and bold, exclusive as well as affordable. Wouters & Hendrix’ signature style was incubated against a background of punk and unbridled creativity. Together with the Antwerp Six, they took part in the British Designer Show in London in 1986. It was there and then that the Belgians’ striking collections and self-built trade stands attracted international attention, and the rise of Belgian fashion commenced. Until this time, creating a world that allows their jewellery to speak is pivotal for Wouters & Hendrix.
